Coroana Hotel

Hotel Coroana ** is one of the architectural jewels of Brasov, being the oldest hotel in the city, the meeting place of great personalities of the time. Placed on the city’s famous pedestrian street, close to the old town gate, close to the Council Square and the Black Church, the hotel attracts all gazes through the Art Noveau and Baroque architecture, being a historic monument.
Architects Schuller and Goldsmidt were inspired by the Munchen architecture, suggesting a symbolic building that pleased both aesthetically and functionally. The hotel’s threshold was passed by important names of Romanian spirituality such as: George Cosbuc, Cincinat Pavelescu, Lucian Blaga, Emil Cioran, Octavian Goga. Here was also the first literary gathering in Brasov in 1923.

CoroanaHotel **

Significance and prestige through name: The original name was Krone Hotel, named after the old town (Kronstadt or Crown City), keeping the mystery of the legend and the myth underlying the name “Brasov”. Uniqueness: Coroana was the first modern hotel in the city, built in 1910 with the involvement of local authorities, to answer the growing number of customers who would be attracted by the benefits of this area, the clean mountain air and the beauties of the area.
Exceptional Architecture: Having a plan to build the representative hotel of Brasov means finding a suitable architect. That’s why, after organizing a competition, architects Schuller and Goldsmidt were selected. With a revolutionary design inspired by Munchen, Coroana was built in the Baroque and Art Noveau styles, the architecture preserved to this day, both indoors and outdoors.
Architect’s inspiration and talent: Coroana was a first class hotel with an interior courtyard, a restaurant, a famous Viennese caf and a club frequented by journalists and literati.
Personalities who have passed the threshold of Coroana: Meeting place for the personalities of the time – the first literary gathering took place in Brasov, in Coroana, in 1923. Hosting place for artists: Over the years, Coroana hosted cultural personalities, musicians, actors and artists (Golden Stag, Conducting Contests, Chamber Music Festival, Medieval Festival, Opera Festival, Vaudeville and Ballet, and the Contemporary Drama Festival). Spacious rooms with great views: The spacious apartments overlook both Tampa Mountain and Republicii Boulevard, the main pedestrian street of the city.
